﴿  ما يَـوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ وَلَا الْـمُشْرِكِينَ أَن يُنَزَّلَ عَلَيْكُم مِّنْ خَيْرٍ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ .. ﴾[2.105] Neither those People of the Book who disbelieve nor the idolaters would like anything good to be sent down to you from your Lord

Negation of a verb in the present tense using the particle ما

لـمْ يَذْهَــبْ حامدٌ إلى المدرسةِ اليومَ Hamid did not go to school today

  1. The particle لم transformed the verb into a past action (i.e., did not go in the past)
  2. The particle لم put the verb in the state of jazm (الجزم)

لا أَسْـمَعُ ماذا تَقُولُ I do not hear what you say

حامدٌ لا يـتَحدَّثُ الآن Hamid is not speaking now

أختي تَغسِلُ الأوانَ هي لا تطبُخُ الآن My sister is washing the dishes. She is not cooking now

The most common negation of the present tense is formed using the particle لا

لَنْ أتَـحَدّثَ مَعَه I will not speak to him

لَنْ نَذْهَــبَ إلى البحرِ We will not go to the sea

لنْ يـُخْبِــرَ أحدًا He will not tell anyone

The particle لن negates the future and puts the verb in the nasb (النصب).
